Summary
We have embarked on an ambitious initiative to improve mathematics education in our district. The success of this effort depends, in part, on our ability to develop a cadre of teacher leaders who are committed to the initiative, who will encourage and support their colleagues at the school level to join the effort, and who can take on the challenge of working with teachers across the district.

Strategies
Building capacity through a tiered model of leadership development
is a multi-stage process where work on a targeted area of high need begins with an outside expert consultant, and as the stages evolve, the consultant fades from on-going work and district-level and teacher leaders increasingly take on the facilitator role.
