Strategy Use pacing guides along with common high-quality assessments

Summary

Many factors affect the successful implementation and maintenance of a districts' curriculum program. Given increased accountability for student achievement - often coupled with high student mobility, teacher transfers, and changes in instructional programs - districts need to provide guidance to its teachers to help ensure that the district grade level learning goals are achieved. The scope and sequence suggested by curriculum programs may not be a fit with district grade level expectations.

This strategy suggests some essential features of district level pacing guides that can facilitate implementation of an adopted curriculum program and be aligned with district grade level expectations. These features can also allow for flexible use in classrooms while making pacing guides more effective.
